Goodpasture Christian School Kindergarten is composed of classrooms housed in our modern facility designed as a little red schoolhouse. Our teachers and educational assistants guide learning through a curriculum that includes language arts, math, science, and social studies. Students receive a daily Bible lesson and devotional. Our teachers utilize a variety of teaching strategies with each lesson to meet the diverse needs of our students. Focusing on the readiness of all our students, our teachers implement a research-based phonics program and a leveled reader program to create reading success! Most kindergartners are reading beyond the first grade level before the end of the kindergarten year. Our 100% suucess rate in kindergarten reading ensures success in later grades as our students are already developing comprehension skills at this early age. Rich in the content areas of social studies and science, our leveled reader program creates not only a love of reading but also an interest in these subjects.
Technology is incorporated into both the reading and math curriculum through use of the iPads and the iMac computers. We are providing students with a variety of grade appropriate apps and programs that build upon the skills and concepts taught. Our cart of iPads puts the latest technology into the hands of each kindergartener. Our kindergarten students spend time each week in the computer lab using programs on iMac computers to reinforce skills taught in the classroom. Kindergarteners are introduced to Microsoft word as well as basic keyboarding skills during these computer class times.
